World TV series are intentionally broadcast with a finite numbers of episodes. Episodes are called season in the North America and series in the UK and Ireland. This season or series consist of 6-26 installments in the USA while there is no definite numbers of series in the UK. USA industries practice longer seasons than those of other countries.
In USA, this is sometimes called "show" or "program" while in UK and Ireland this is called "programme" . A single instance of this program is called episode. A one-off broadcast may, particularly in the USA and USA-influenced countries, be called a "special", or particularly in the UK a "special episode". In the UK a television film is a film that is initially broadcast on television rather than being released in cinemas and other video direct viewing, although many successful television movies are later released on VCDs, DVDs, and recently BluRay Disc.
Advertisement plays a big role in most TV programming. On a 1 hour TV program it may contain a 15 minutes of advertisement in some countries. In the UK, BBC being publicly funded does not run advertisements excepts to trail or promotes their own programmes. Its promotions appears between and near the end of the programmes. Same also to the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in the United States and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in Australia. The number of commercial or advertisements can also vary, for instance Japanese television tends to prefer fewer and longer commercial breaks while American television has several spread throughout the program. This has an impact on the planning of the show, in order to provide a good transition of the program as well as keep the audience from switching channels to watch their chosen TV series.
In each countries they have their own style of TV series programmng, it depends on how to attract their viewer for better promotions of their TV programs.
